Indigo and navy can both be classed as dark blues, but there are some clear differences. Indigo is much closer to blue, and sometimes isn’t easy to separate from other dark blue shades. Purple has a lot more red in it, and is clearly recognizable as its own color. Indigo is definitely not the same as purple. So this means that indigo is closer to blue than to purple. Violet is the midway point between blue and purple. On the color wheel, indigo is found between blue and violet. What Color Is Closest to Indigo?Īnother way to decide what color is indigo is to look at the color spectrum. Pantone describes it as ‘encompassing the qualities of blue with a violet red undertone’ – so that doesn’t really help!įarrow & Ball, the paint manufacturers, say it is ‘mainly blue with underlying violet notes’.īut the color most often is said to be a blue. And the color does sit between the two on the color wheel. Some of them are more towards the purple shade. The indigo dye of the time is really towards the blue side of the spectrum! Think of the color of blue jeans, which were originally dyed with real indigo dye.īut you can see a lot depends on how you see it and name it!īecause there are different shades of indigo, it can depend on which one you are looking at. His “indigo” was what many people consider blue today. Today we think of this as aqua blue or turquoise. However – we need to realize that his “blue” was closer to the cyan blue of printing inks. Only 6!Īnd that Newton named 7 colors because he was into numerology and the meaning of 7 as perfection. They even say that the true rainbow colors should be red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. Today, some people question why we include blue, indigo, and violet? Aren’t they too close to be 3 separate colors of the rainbow? If not for him, we would not have the handy acronym “ROY G BIV.” Which of course stands for Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet. Yes, Sir Isaac Newton is the one we have to thank for naming the rainbow colors. He used a prism to show that white light could be divided into 7 distinct colors, then reunited into white again by use of another prism. Indigo was recognized as a color distinct from blue and purple by Sir Isaac Newton in the mid 17th century.Īt that time, he attempted to prove that white light contained a full spectrum of colors. There is controversy over whether indigo is even a color! Indigo is also famous as one of the colors of the rainbow, and one of the seven colors of the visible spectrum. When the British came to India, they started to grow the plant in larger numbers to export the dye for the clothing industry. The botanical name of the pant commonly called true indigo is indigofera tinctoria. This plant comes from India and has been used as a dye since ancient times. Indigo is named for the plant used to create the original dye in the color. It is made by mixing blue with red, just like other purplish shades.īut there are different shades called indigo, and this adds to the confusion! Indigo is a secondary color on the color wheel. So let’s better understand what color indigo is, and try to settle the debate.
A better location coverage provides the user with more options as per the requirements. Location support matters more than the number of servers. Rather, it would increase the operational costs for the service, which could eventually trickle down to the users’ subscription fees. Increasing the number of servers rapidly at a rate higher than the growth of the user base doesn’t bring any significant advantages for a VPN service that has a relatively smaller user base. But as a user, it’s important to understand what really matters in terms of location coverage.Ī larger number of servers usually implies that the VPN service has a significant user base, i.e., it needs more servers to handle the network activity. But different VPN services market their location coverage in different ways some emphasize on the number of servers, some highlight how many locations or cities they have servers in, while others advertise how many countries they span. Location Coverage: Location support is a key factor for a VPN. In the below section, we’ll explore various features of VPN Unlimited in detail. In the Settings page, you can select your preferred VPN protocol, set up DNS Firewall, enable or disable the Kill Switch feature (on limited platforms and VPN protocols), disable the VPN on Trusted Networks, install/remove the VPN profile, configure the VPN client to run at startup, and more. If VPN performance is your primary concern, selecting the optimal server should pick the right server for you most of the time.Ĭlicking on the Main Menu takes you to the “My Account” section, where you can subscribe to a particular VPN Unlimited Plan, or purchase extras, such as a Personal Server, a Personal IP, or additional slots for your devices. Optimal Server Selection: Apart from manual selection, VPN Unlimited provides an “Optimal” server selection, which automatically selects a server with optimal performance and speed, based on your current location, the workload on the server, and the VPN protocol selected. Together, the server load indicator and the ping test tool might help you to select a VPN server that offers good performance without significant lag. If latency a concern for you, VPN Unlimited’s built-in Ping Test tool helps you simultaneously check ping times on all the available servers. A longer ping time is usually associated with more latency, which could affect your experience in activities such as gaming, video conferencing, etc. Native Ping Test Tool: Ping time indicates the time taken for a client request to reach the server and back. Users generally tend to avoid the servers with more workload, and most of the time, this results in an automatic load balancing situation. You can pick and choose a server as per your convenience, depending on the situation. A heavier load on a server may be better for privacy, but on the other hand, the peak performance may be hindered. Server Load Indicator: The server list also indicates how much workload a particular VPN server is currently handling. Below that, there’s a drop-down menu that lists VPN server locations, including some optimized for streaming services. Below the map, you’ll find a prominent Power button to switch the VPN on or off. At the top, you see a map of the world with a pin representing your current location, as determined by your IP address. Once you’ve downloaded and activated the VPN service, you’re presented with a simple UI. We have previously reviewed their affordable SmartDNS solution called KeepSolid SmartDNS. KeepSolid is a New York-based corporation established in 2013, which expertises in creating “modern security and productivity solutions for corporate and personal use”. Note: Before we begin, here’s a little bit about the company. But how does it hold up against the already established players in the market? Let’s find out. KeepSolid VPN Unlimited is one of the VPN providers that got our attention due to its competitive long-term pricing plans. But free VPNs usually aren’t recommended due to prevalent privacy, security, and performance issues. While there are a lot of established VPN products in the market right now, most of them may seem a little pricey, especially when there are enough free options available. They have a wide spectrum of uses for protecting your privacy, including while roaming, connecting to public Wi-Fi hotspots, streaming, and torrenting. Over the years, VPN has become one of the primary tools for privacy on the Internet, helping you to safely browse the web without the fear of being monitored by your ISP, Government agencies, or third-party entities. The mention that their lawn is mowed shows that they are living up to an American standard of perfection. (My English class calls it pessimistic?)Ĭlearly, this show the family’s assimilation into American society. The usage of the word “dirt” instead of something like “soil” is an example of diction with a negative connotation. The imagery shows the speaker leaving a marks in the dust, which is a metaphor for her wanting to make a mark in her life. Here, the speaker is describing what it was like when she and her family first moved to America: they felt and looked/acted like foreigners/outsiders, even in comparison to other immigrants. In other words, she doesn’t want to do only housework for the rest of her life and remain unknown to the rest of the world. She hopes to one day be known for a powerful impact she had on the world, rather than be like her mother, whom she describes as being “anonymous”. The reader can easily see that the young girl longs to leave a mark on the world as she describes how she leaves her “signatures” in the dust on the furniture “like scales”. Instead, she longs to make an impact on the world and be known rather than “anonymous” like her mom. The last 2 lines of the poem tell the reader about how the girl does not wish to become like her mother, and just stay at home cleaning all day everyday. The reader also gets a better sense of how watching her mother get rid of her “fingerprints”. This helps to make the picture of the little girl wanting to leave a lasting impact on the world more vivid to the reader. In the next 11 lines, she illustrates her mother getting rid of the marks she made in the dust by using more imagery and figurative speech. There is no consistent rhyme scheme, but the rhymes that are seen throughout emphasize the objects the speaker attempts to leave an imprint on, as well as the imagery that she uses to describe how she does it in the first 5 lines of the poem. Four lines per stanza from stanza 2-4 allow the reader to process her meaning behind talking about each element and what they do.Īlvarez uses imagery, similes, and metaphors to depict a young girl who attempts to leave a mark in the dust throughout her house every morning before her mother wipes it away. Each stanza also includes only 4 lines, whereas the first stanza includes 14. She also switches to an alternating rhyme scheme to put more emphasis on it. The speaker talks about the little things in nature, showing the reader how much she appreciates them and how little things like that give her something else to focus on, and take her mind off her busy lifestyle. The rest of the poem continues to accentuate the lack of free time in her everyday life. She has no free time to do anything she wants, not even to just sit and relax for five minutes. The use of the couplet rhyme scheme emphasizes all the different chores she has to do around the house. This also displays her overwhelming schedule for her every day life. This shows the giant load of work she has to get done before the day is out. The list of household errands the speaker does on a daily basis shows that she is always busy and has little to no free time. The organization of the stanzas help to emphasize certain aspects of the poem, such as the different tasks the speaker has to complete, and the different elements of nature that she can “call” her “own” and their actions. Imagery is used throughout the poem to help the reader to better visualize everything the woman must do, and all the simple things she wishes she could enjoy freely. Personification is used from stanza 2 to 4 to emphasize the speaker’s longing for a friend. Alvarez uses an AABB rhyme scheme to emphasize the different chores. This poem focuses on the duties a woman normally carries out, and longs for something to call her own. To show how one-sided this kind of stereotyping really is, try to imagine the uproar that the Neoliberal media would make if some pro-life leader snottily declared that all abortophiles were nothing but a bunch of sexually perverted, atheist lowlife scum!Īn anti-life debater may very well make a statement similar to the above NARAL quote. They will have successfully tapped into the deep reservoir of residual anti-Catholic and anti-religious bigotry that lurks within the souls of tens of millions of Americans. If NARAL and their contemptible ilk can convince the public that the pro-life movement is very narrow in focus and unrepresentative of the American mainstream by painting it as an organ of an 'unholy alliance' between the Pope and Fundamentalist preachers, they will have won a great psychological victory. There is good strategic reasoning behind this blatant bigotry. The above quotes are two of many attempts by the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) and other pro-abort groups to stereotype and pigeonhole the entire pro-life movement. When you scan lists of groups opposing abortion, you find all of them are religious in nature.Īnne Nicol Gaylor, Abortion is a Blessing. and then to challenge your opponent to name one nonreligious organization in any of these categories (health, welfare, legal, medical, etc.) that supports their contention that abortion is murder. One of the more effective ways of scoring this point is to read from the List of Organizations Favoring Repeal the names of prestigious national organizations. Opposition to abortion comes largely from the Roman Catholic Church. To carry your cargo and make port is the point. Plough ahead as a steamer does, rough or smooth, rain or shine. The camera swings in close alongside fighters and bombers, detailing an almost Star Wars-style trench run on the final objective, turrets blazing away in defiance of the attacking waves of enemy ships. That 21-year-old demo reel, still available on YouTube in various places, shows an assault on a large orbital structure much like the one seen in this week's trailer. "One of the things we were heavily inspired by," McGuire said in an interview with Polygon, "was one of the ideas that they had originally for Homeworld 2 back in - this would have been like 2001." But, to hear Blackbird Interactive's chief creative officer Rory McGuire tell it, it's actually more like Homeworld the way I imagined it. This is Homeworld the way I remember it, with its signature three-dimensional space combat lighting up the darkness on my computer screen. Polygon played the level shown in that video - remotely, mind you, and without the final bits of graphical flourish like ray tracing - but the experience was nonetheless stunning. And what really comes through for me is space.Ī new trailer for Homeworld 3 arrived on Tuesday, showing spacecraft large and small duking it out over the wreckage of massive orbital structures. It's as though the faff of the old games has been tidied away - but not sacrificed - to enable the exciting parts of the formula to come through. And it's fun.Īnd those two words "it's fun" are crucial to what Homeworld 3 is about. They are not dumb: they won't fly into walls and scenery if you leave them unattended. They will make trench-runs on their own with only a simple instruction - trench-runs! They'll fly through huge engine shafts of colossal wrecks on their own - peekaboo! They'll even use nearby cover automatically while preparing for another attack run. No fussy controls govern it your cursor shows how ships will interact with a piece of scenery and then they do. I'm over here - no not really, I'm over here! And I've played Homeworld 3 for about an hour and the idea really works. They can handle this big idea of using space wreckage as cover to hide behind, fly through, sneak around - use it like a theatrical set you can play tricks on your opponents with. Computers just couldn't handle it at the time.īut now they can. And actually, to hear Rob Cunningham tell it in our interview below - he who helped dream up Homeworld and co-founded Relic, and now leads Blackbird, the studio making Homeworld 3 - this game is actually what they always wanted Homeworld 2 to be. The World Games, first held in 1981, are an international multi-sport event that showcases sports that are not contested in the Olympic Games, but are under the Olympic umbrella. The announcement was made during the recently held SportAccord General Assembly held in Bangkok, Thailand in mid-April. The World Confederation of Billiards Sports (WCBS) can now announce that pool, snooker, and carom will be included in the 2021 World Games to be hosted in the US city of Birmingham, Alabama from 15 – 25 July 2021. Today, one-cushion billiards is rarely played in the U.S., but it still enjoys some popularity in Europe where it is featured as one of the five games making up the annual billiards pentathlons, the other four games being 47.1 balkline, straight rail, 71.2 balkline and three-cushion billiards. There’s good news for the world’s best practitioners of billiards sports and the tens of millions of fans around the globe who follow pool, snooker and carom. title at one-cushion billiards has only been held by six men: Joseph Dion, William Sexton, Maurice Daly, George Slosson and Willie Hoppe, who held it for 11 years from 1933 to 1944. The presently-dominant game, three-cushion billiards, a direct outgrowth of one-cushion billiards also beginning in the 1870s, did not marginalize balkline until the 1920s. 3.1 star 1.26K reviews 500K+ Downloads Everyone info Install About this game arrowforward Carom Billiards is the most realistic and closest to reality billiards simulation available on. One-cushion billiards retained some popularity with the public it is known that Mark Twain enjoyed the game on occasion. It eclipsed one-cushion billiards as the game of public match play and tournaments until well into the 20th century. īy the late 1870s, the newer discipline of balkline increasingly becoming effective at limited nursing. With the two object balls stacked perpendicular to a rail and just next to it, the rub nurse is performed by gently banking the cue ball off the rail so it softly grazes both object balls before coming to rest near the original position. Later, between 18, a new nurse shot was developed for one-cushion, known as the "rub nurse". The solution was to require that all shots include contact with at least one cushion before the second object ball is contacted, an idea taken from an early form of English billiards called the doublet game. This was a result of the "rail nurse", a shot in which the object balls are nudged at very soft speed down a rail to a duplicate position again and again. Straight rail fell into disfavor as skilled top players could score a seemingly endless series of points with the balls barely moving in a confined area of the table playing area. One-cushion billiards developed in the late 1860s as an alternative to the game straight rail, in which points are scored by a simple carom off both object balls with no cushion requirement. It is governed by the Union Mondiale de Billard, the world governing body of carom billiards. If there is ambiguity as to whether the second ball was contacted, it is resolved against the shooter. If no object ball is contacted, one point is deducted. The object of the game is to score up to an agreed upon number of cushion caroms, with one point being awarded for each successfully made. In a one-cushion shot, the cue ball caroms off both object balls with at least one rail being struck before the hit on the second object ball. One-cushion billiards also known as cushion caroms is a carom billiards discipline generally played on a cloth-covered, 10-by-5-foot (3.0 m × 1.5 m), pocketless billiard table with two cue balls and a third red-colored ball. Marco Zanetti at the 1986 Einband-EuropameisterschaftĬue stick, billiard balls, billiard table Of course, this isn’t the first Logitech mouse to be released at the $150 pricepoint both the G903 and the G Pro hit the market at $150, but the G502 has always represented an ultra-high performance offering that was still within reach of average gamers. By pricing the G502 Lightspeed at $150, Logitech is going to freeze out a lot of gaming enthusiasts who simply won’t spend that much on a mouse, for good reason. Lightspeed technology, along with the equally-amazing PowerPlay wireless charging technology, have been available for several years in a wide range of Logitech mice, with an entry price of just $80 in the form of the Logitech G703. With that said, Logitech is in the somewhat enviable position of being it’s own worst enemy. It is without a doubt the best gaming mouse on the market. Today, Logitech combines these two crowning achievements into one product, the G502 Lightspeed. And ever Logitech launched the G403 Prodigy Wireless in 2016, the first mouse to use what is now marketed as Logitech Lightspeed technology, no other wireless system could compete. Enjoy!Įver since Logitech launched the G502 Proteus Core in 2014, it has been the benchmark by which all other mice have been judged. To cover the description, features, and performance of this mouse, we’ve created a video that shows you every last detail of this mouse, including how it compares to a number of other models. Special thanks to Logitech for providing a sample of its G502 Lightspeed Mouse and PowerPlay Wireless Charging Mat for review. We’ll be returning to this query when we discuss the G502’s performance. But five years is five years, and while the human hand hasn’t changed much, the ability of manufacturers to better conform to the human hand probably has. We already knew, and Logitech reminded us, that the G502 has been the top-selling gaming mouse in the world virtually since the day it launched, and it was our top recommendation for several years. One related question that came to our mind when Logitech first informed us about the G502 Lightspeed was whether its exterior design could stand the test of time. If this design was so good, why didn’t Logitech just launch its Lightspeed lineup in 2016 with the G502, which was then still a fairly new design? Why did we get the G403/G703 and the G900/G903, and then the Logitech G Pro? It turns out there’s a good reason for it, but we’ll get into that later in this review. Now, it’s somewhat mind-blowing to consider that the exterior design of the G502 that first appeared in 2014 and is copied nearly down to the very last detail in the G502 Lightspeed actually predates every modern wireless mouse that Logitech has released. Well nearly five years later, here it is, the Logitech G502 Lightspeed! But Logitech has been coy about its plans to update the G502 to wireless. Since its debut in 2014, it has actually been updated twice, first to add RGB (because RGB is important!) in the form of the G502 Proteus Spectrum, and second to add Logitech’s “HERO” 16,000 dpi sensor. The original G502 Proteus Core, which we reviewed here, was a ground-breaking mouse in terms of performance, aesthetics, and ergonomic design. So it was with great excitement that we agreed to test the subject of today’s review, Logitech’s G502 Lightspeed. Put another way, there’s only one company that can beat Logitech, and that’s Logitech. For the most part, these have been wired mice, and once you’ve used a Logitech wireless mouse from its Lightspeed wireless line, there’s just no reason to go back to being tethered. Yes, we’ve tested a bunch of mice since then, and yes, they’re all back in the box. When Logitech added PowerPlay wireless charging with the release of G703 less than a year later, it was game over, folks. In our review of the G403, we called it “The One,” as in the one mouse everyone had been waiting for, which made all other mice obsolete. We’ve tested a whole lot of mice over the years, but ever since September 2016, we’ve personally used nothing but Logitech’s G403 and more recently its close cousin the G703.
